DAY 2: Registration process and introductory lectures

What a busy first day!. Early in the morning  we've got our valid visitor card, which has a cool photo inside, after queuing for half and hour.

Tharcisse, Ana and me next to  building 55 where we've got our cards.

Then we attended two lectures, in Georges Charpak room, about the programme we are going to develope these days and about CERN itself.

Introduction to the programme by Konrad Jende

Introduction to CERN by Rolf Landua

After having lunch at 12.00 a.m. Tara Shears, from University of Liverpool, gave us a pretty interesting Introduction to Particle Physics. The following days we will go more deeply into it.

In the afternoon we've visited the CERN's very first particle accelerator, Synchro Cyclotron or simply SC, which was built in 1957. It closed down in 1990 after 33 years in service. Recently, it has been restored and transformed into a museum in order to celebrate CERN's 60th anniversary.
Its story and evolution was ilustrated in a high-tech documentary made by a Spanish company that is projected into building 300. Here you have some photos.

And finally, a successful Question and Answer Session at Council Chamber with Goronwy Jones from University of Birmingham.
