DAY 5: How detectors works and visiting ATLAS

At 9.00 a.m we've attended a lecture by Mar Capeáns from CERN about Particle Detectors...

...and at 11.00 a lecture by George Mikenberg from Weizmann Institute of Science about ATLAS.

The events are studied using gigantic detectors which are built in layers with different funcionalities. Following each event, computers collect and interpret the vast quantity of data from the detectors. Then, physicists build up what was in the detector at the moment of the collision.

The largest LHC detectors are ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS), CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) , ALICE (A Large Hadron Collider Experiment) and LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty experiment).

Today we have been visiting ATLAS. Uaaaa! Just take a look.
